Ministry of Home Affairs exposes fake MyKad syndicate, warns legal action
THE Ministry of Home Affairs (KDN) has detected the production of fake MyKad by irresponsible parties but assures the issue is under control through regular monitoring.
To tackle this, the National Registration Department (JPN) is conducting nationwide outreach programs to educate the public on identifying counterfeit MyKad and emphasising the importance of surrendering such documents to authorities.
“The main objective of the program is to educate the public on the characteristics of counterfeit MyKad. We aim to show the community the fake elements in MyKad, as authentic MyKad have security features that can only be detected using special tools.
“Through this program, the government wants to educate the public to avoid possessing counterfeit documents and to hand them over to the authorities if they come across any fake MyKad,” he told Sinar Harian recently.
This is because, he said, the government has the capability to detect the use of counterfeit MyKad, and those found guilty of such offenses may face legal action.
“Only with strict measures can we ensure that the public refrains from being involved with or possessing fake identification documents,” he added.
The government is also enhancing MyKad and Malaysian passport security features to prevent counterfeiting.
The final designs for updated MyKad and passports are in the works, with potential plans for digital MyKad in the future.
Malaysia’s international passport is recognized among the world’s top 10 for its credibility.
It incorporates three key elements—data-paced, chip, and integrated systems—which allow seamless global access to auto gates. These features will be further strengthened.
Additionally, JPN upholds strict Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) to maintain integrity in MyKad production, ensuring all processes, from data input to printing, meet security standards.
Any integrity issues, although minimal, are treated seriously to preserve the department’s reputation and operational security. — FocusM, Dec 22, 2024
