Report: PBM was supposed to be Bersatu’s “subsidiary”, Zuraida claims
FORMER Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) leader Datuk Zuraida Kamaruddin insinuated that party president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin was aware of her involvement in setting up Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM).
According to Mingguan Malaysia, Zuraida alleged that she had mentioned the matter to Muhyiddin himself!
“I had informed him of the idea of setting up a multiracial party that will serve as a ‘subsidiary’ to Bersatu.
“This new party would be able to entice support from other races, which Bersatu may not be able to do given it is a Malay only party. I also told Muhyiddin that this will help increase Bersatu’s support among the masses,” the Ampang MP quipped.
Last week, Zuraida announced that she was leaving Bersatu to join Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM).
While she has yet to resign from her ministerial post, Bersatu had insisted that the prime minister appoint someone from the party to fill in the position.
Yesterday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said that Zuraida will remain as Plantation Industries and Commodities (MPIC) Minister until he decides otherwise upon his return from Japan.
Following Zuraida’s departure, Muhyiddin said he knew of her links to PBM and hence, a show-cause letter was issued on May 9. — May 29, 2022
